Officer Richard Calhoun was shot and killed while he and officers attempted to apprehend several prison escapees in a home.
One of the escapees fired a gun over a stairwell at the officers, fatally wounding Officer Calhoun. Then, one of the escapees was shot and killed by another escapee, before they were all killed in a fire during the ensuing standoff.
Officer Calhoun had served with the Houston Police Department for 5 years. He was survived by his wife and four children.
