Summary: On April 2, 2013 Police Officer Patrick Hill was shot in the head following a high speed pursuit of a murder suspect. Approx 6 months later, on Oct. 19, he succumbed to the wounds he had received.

The vehicle they were pursuing was boxed into another police car at the intersection of Linwood and Hooker Street. The murder suspect immediately opened fire on officers from inside the vehicle. During exchange, Officer Hill was struck in the head and Sgt. Jeffrey Pacholski was shot in the leg. Other officers on the scene returned fire, killing the suspect. Another person in the vehicle attempted to flee on foot but was arrested.

Officer Hill was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Sgt. Jeffrey Pacholski was treated and released.

Disposition: On Oct 21, 2913 Police Chief James Craig stated 'The investigation and evidence gathered to date suggest that Officer Hill's wounds were likely the result of friendly fire.'

Craig said 'shrapnel,' pellets from a Detroit police officer's shotgun, struck Hill in the head. He said it appears possible that they 'deflected off' of a vehicle before injuring the officer.
