Fatal Incident Summary
Offender: No Info
Location: MO   USA   Fri. Apr. 20, 2018
Summary: Approx. 1748hours(local), Deputy Shoemate was responding to an emergency call, traveling on Missouri Highway Y, north of Rabbit Hill Road between Rocky Mount and Eldon in Miller County when he encountered a fire truck heading to a call in the same direction; though the fire engine did not have signals nor sirens on.

This stretch of roadway is hilly and known for low visibility so there was a no-passing zone. (Law enforcement is permitted to pass in a no-pass zone when responding to a call but still must use caution).

Deputy Shoemate, who was driving his police issued Dodge Charger, went to pass the Firetruck and as he went around it, hit another vehicle head-on that was coming in the opposite direction.

Note: It was erroneously reported earlier that Deputy Shoemate was enroute to a fire. this was not the case.
