Constable Wayne Coram was shot and killed after arresting two brothers in the West Bay area of the county. After arresting them, one of them produced a concealed handgun and forced Constable Coram to surrender his gun. The two then put Constable Coram in the car and drove off. During the drive one of the men secretly replaced Constable Coram's ammunition with blanks and returned it to him. As they slowed down at a corner Constable Coram jumped out of the car and the three exchanged fire, however, Constable Coram's gun was rendered harmless with the blanks in it. Constable Coram was struck and killed by rounds fired by the brothers.
